The MLB Draft: A Small Beginning

The MLB Draft: A Small Beginning

Is the MLB Draft close to being what the NFL draft is? Is it close to being what the NBA draft is? Not by a long shot. But, as the new movie Prometheus tells us (…Do I get paid for mentioning this?), “Big things have small beginnings”.

MLB is looking to evolve their draft into something big, and it seems like they are off to a great start.  Not only are they planning on having an hour long pre-draft show on MLB Network tonight, but they have joined the ‘welcomne to 2012′ party, and have put on their social media suits. You can follow the draft on twitter @MLBDRAFT and can join the conversation by tagging tweets with #mlbdraft ….I’ll be doing both.

The idea of the draft becoming as big as the NBA’s or the NFL’s almost seems laughable to some. But for MLB this is a first step towards a long journey. They aren’t simply calling it the ‘MLB Draft’ either; rather, they call it, the ‘First Year Player Draft’ …seems more exciting…I think.  From a personal perspective, I’ve been hearing a lot about it – and thats a good thing! In recent years, the Draft has came and went without a whisper. If you are the same page as me and know the Draft is tonight, then MLB has done their job, and that’s all you can ask fro – a small beginning to big thing.
